In 1961, the Augusta Area Vocational-Technical School was founded. It merged with the Richmond Area Vocational School in 1966 and became the Augusta Area Technical School. It wasn't until 1987 that it was renamed as the Augusta Technical Institute, and then to the Augusta Technical College in the year 2000.

Serving the Augusta Georgia area, the Augusta Technical College is a 2 year accredited college that gives it's students what is necessary to enter the local job market with confidence or gives them their first 2 years of a college education where they can move into a university. They have 3 campuses, one in Augusta, one in Thomson and another in Waynesboro.
