LaGuardiaCommunityCollege

Located in Long Island, Queens, New York is the LaGuardia Community College. Named after the former New York Mayor, Ferrell LaGuardia the community college is sometimes referred to as the world's community college because of it's diverse student population. In fact, the student body comprises some 150 different nations, speaking some 100 different languages.

Founded in 1968, the LaGuardia Community College had the name Community College #9 and was housed in with rather humble beginnings. It was held in the Sunshine Biscuits Bakery after a supposed visit from Mayor LaGuardia. The have a long and successful history, being named one of the top 3 community colleges in the United States by the Community College Survey of Student Engagement in 2002.

The LaGuardia Community College, along with having a wide range of classes held on its campuses also offers a distance learning program to its students. The distance learning program offers students that are not able to attend classes on campus the ability to take those classes in an online environment. They log into their virtual classroom to receive assignments and deadlines and then complete the work on their own time.
